Wind, weather, water: The most prominent players to miss the cut at the Players Championship

Three players from the top 10 in the world rankings, plus major winners and Ryder Cup stars: These stars were eliminated from the Players Championship 2022 at the halfway cut - often 17th was the deciding factor.

Wind and weather ruled the Players Championship 2022, so (almost) all players were in action until Sunday. When normally the final round is played on the PGA Tour and the winner is crowned, this year the cut had to be drawn first at the flagship tournament of the American Tour. A late quadruple bogey by Scott Piercy on the signature hole 17 moved the cut line to two-over-par, benefiting Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, among others, who are now competing for the total prize money of 20 million US dollars. These top players, however, had to leave "early".
