PGA Tour: Justin Thomas wins the THE PLAYERS Championship

Justin Thomas has won at the PGA Tour´s THE PLAYERS Championship. The American scored a final round of 68 at TPC Sawgrass. He finishes in front of Lee Westwood in second place and Brian Harman and Bryson DeChambeau who are currently in joint third place. Thomas finished the THE PLAYERS Championship with a total score of 14 under par.

Thomas, 27, was overwhelmed having won one of the biggest events of the PGA Tour calendar: "this week was huge to win a big championship like this in front of fans again, which is incredible. You know, it tested me mentally, physically, emotionally, and I'm very proud of myself for getting it done".

Lee Westwood, world number 31, finishes the tournament in 2nd place. The Englishman posted a final round of 72. With a total score of -13, he finished 1 stroke behind Thomas after the THE PLAYERS Championship.

"Everybody keeps telling my how old I am. I'm 48 in a month's time, and I'm still out here contending for tournaments and playing in final groups with great players like Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas and people like that. It's just a joy to be involved and still playing well and being able to contend," laughed Westwood, who first turned pro in 1993, the same year DeChambeau and Thomas were born.

Paul Casey, world number 19 in the world golf ranking, ends the tournament in T5 place after a closing round of 70 at TPC Sawgrass. With a score of -11, he ended up 3 strokes behind Thomas.

Matthew Fitzpatrick, world number 16, rounds off the tournament in T9 position. The Englishman posted a final round of 72 at TPC Sawgrass.

Scotsmen Russell Knox and Martin Laird finished T67 and T69 rank respectively.

Laird, who is currently world number 93, finishes the tournament at TPC Sawgrasswith a closing round of 73.

THE PLAYERS Championship is part of the PGA Tour. The tournament took place this year from March 11th until the 14th of March 2021 at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida (USA).
