LPGA Tour: KPMG Women’s PGA Championship preview

The LPGA season continues with this week’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship – the third major of the year. This year the tournament will be played at Johns Creek, Ga and it has a prize fund of $4,500,000. The winner will take $675,000 from the total purse. World number four Sei Young Kim will defend the title she won a year ago at Aronimink Golf Club. The field this week features 11 past champions and all 13 LPGA winners so far this season. According to most of the leading bookmakers Inbee Park, Nelly Korda and Jin Young Ko are the main favorites to lift the trophy on Sunday.

Inbee Park already has written her name in the tournament’s history. She won it three years in a row (2013-2015) and has five others top 5s finishes.

Nelly Korda won last week’s Meijer LPGA Classic for Simply Give and she arrives in Johns Creek with high expectations. The American is the only player with two wins this season (Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio and Meijer LPGA Classic). Nelly Korda is ranked third in the world, but she is still looking for her maiden major title. Her best result in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship came in 2019 when she finished tied for third.

Jin Young Ko is the top ranked golfer in the world, but she is not playing her best golf recently. The Korean posted only one top 10 finish in her last four starts. Jin Young Ko will play her third KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and she is T11-T14 in her two previous appearances.
