PGA Tour: Five notable players who need a strong finish this week to make the FedEx Cup Playoffs

This week's Wyndham Championship is the last regular PGA Tour event of the season. It is also the last chance for the players to climb the FedEx Cup standing in order to make the Playoffs. Last year Jim Herman won the regular season final and climbed from 194th to 54th in the FedEx Cup standings so there is still hope for some big names to play at THE NORTHERN TRUST next week.

The 2018 Open champion Francesco Molinari has been very inconsistent this season. The Italian has three top 10s this season, but his chances to make the Playoffs are not big considering his recent results. Molinari missed the cut in six of his last eight starts. To qualify for THE NORTHERN TRUST he needs a top six finish this week.

Justin Rose (138th)

A former world number one and FedEx Cup winner, it's a surprise to see the name of Justin Rose in the list with players whose season can end this week. The Englishman posted only two top 10s this season and as a result dropped to 48th in the world. The good thing for Rose is that both of them came in majors so it seems he still can find his best game on a big stage.

Rickie Fowler (130th)

Fowler's struggles continue and it looks like he will have a long break after this week. The American finished inside the top 10 once in 2021 and missed the cut in six tournaments. Fowler must finish 21st or better this week to make it to Liberty National Golf Club next week. He has never missed to qualify for the Playoffs so far in his PGA Tour career.

Tommy Fleetwood (136th)

Fleetwood spent most of the season playing on the PGA Tour where he didn't impress. The Englishman has only two top 10s this season and must finish 11th or better this week at Sedgefield Country Club to prolong his season.

Rory Sabbatini (141st)

Rory Sabbatini had four straight missed cuts before the Olympic Games. His only top 10s finish of the season came exactly in Tokyo where he won the silver medal. Just like Molinari he must be ranked sixth or better on Sunday to make the trip to Jersey City next week.
