PGA Tour: Five players to watch at the Rocket Mortgage Classic

Rocket Mortgage Classic is one of the youngest tournaments on the PGA Tour's calendar. The first edition of the event was in 2019 when Nate Lashley won by six over Doc Redman. This year the tournament has a prize fund of $7,500,00.

Who are the favorites?

The defending champion Bryson DeChambeau is bookmaker's favorite for the win this week at Detroit Golf Club. DeChambeau arrives in Detroit after a solid T19 finish at the Travelers Championship. The American already won once this season. He claimed the title at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in early March.

Hideki Matsuyama will make his third Rocket Mortgage Classic appearance where he is T13 - T21 in his two previous visits to Detroit Golf Club. The Japanese hasn't been a real threat since he won at Augusta, but he has style of play which suits this golf course.

Patrick Reed

Patrick Reed hasn't been very consistent so far this season. The American has five top 10s in 2021 but also has four missed cuts. Reed's last top 10 came earlier this month at The Memorial Tournament. The 2018 Masters champion made his debut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in 2019 when he finished tied for 5th.

Satoshi Kodaira posted three top 20s in his last four starts. Last week at the Travelers Championship Kodaira had the lead at some point, but ran out of steam during the weekend and finished tied for 36th.

Wildcard

Sepp Straka had a fantastic week at the Travelers Championship where he finished tied for 10th. Is there a more suitable tournament for the Austrian to claim his first PGA Tour title? Straka finished T11 & T8 in his previous two Rocket Mortgage Classic appearances with the impressive scoring average of 68.13.
