Bernhard Langer shares his memories of the PNC Championship and what makes playing alongside his son so special.

Bernhard Langer vividly remembers his first appearance at the PNC Championship. His son was still in high school—young, ambitious, and suddenly among golf’s elite. “We had a blast,” Langer recalls. “Back then, he had to compete against professional teams—hitting drives and aiming for the green with an 8-iron, even though he was three over par.” It wasn’t about the score, though. “It was just a wonderful time.” That experience marked the beginning of a tradition that continues to this day. “I loved this tournament from the moment I was invited.”

Legends, Majors, and Family Bonds

The PNC Championship brings together players who have made golf history. For Bernhard Langer, that’s part of the magic. “Being out there with other Major champions and legends of the game is something special,” he says. But it’s not about trophies or prestige—it’s about sharing the experience with family. “It’s one of my favorite tournaments.” Great careers meet budding swings, with Langer at the heart—as both father and competitor.

A Holiday Tradition

Held in December, the PNC Championship has become a holiday staple for many players—including Bernhard Langer. “It’s a wonderful time of year, just before Christmas, when families come together. It feels like a family reunion,” he says. While the PGA Tour and other circuits are on winter break, this event stands out as a unique celebration of golf, camaraderie, and generational connection.
