Golf at Goodwood Welcomes 2024 Festival of Speed
07/12/2024

“Welcome to the 2024 Festival of Speed.
When we held this event for the first time back in 1993, every car and motorcycle on the Hill had a petrol engine. if you’d said to me then that 30 years later we’d have electric racing cars, hybrid Formula 1 engines, and even hydrogen-powered cars at the Festival of Speed, I would have been surprised - but also thrilled.
Technology never stands still, and it’s the inventiveness and constant progress of motorsport that we celebrate with this year’s theme, Horseless to Hybrid - Revolutions in power. Our Central Feature is dedicated to 100 years of MG, a marque that is forever linked with Goodwood. We’re also delighted to host the hugely successful Red Bull Racing team as it reaches its 20th birthday. And we salute Joest Racing, which is celebrating 40 years since its first Le Mans 24-Hour win, and the late, great Niki Lauda, whose first F1 Grand Prix victory was 50 years ago. Engines may have changed, but what it takes to win at the highest level remains the same. I hope you all enjoy your visit to the Festival.”
The Duke of Richmond and Gordon opens the 2024 Festival of Speed driving the 1931 MG C-Type that propelled his grandfather, Freddie March, to victory in the Brooklands Double 12 that same year.
