Sidmouth Seniors Battle Hard at Exminster Golf Centre

Match Report for the SGC vs Exminster (seniors) match on Tuesday 2nd July at Exminster Golf Centre:
Sidmouth seniors travelled to Exminster hoping to back up their home success from a week earlier. Acting captain, Phil Spencer and David Bromage went down 5 & 3 to a very good pairing of young (at 58) Richard Broadhurst and captain Michael Cooper, who posted three birdies and a number of pars in their win. Richard also picked up the Exminster nearest the pin prize.
Martyn Cross & Adrian Hack had an excellent match, winning the first 3 holes and never going behind, although Exminster fought back, Martyn & Adrian won 1-up. Martyn also won the Sidmouth nearest the pin prize. Next out were Adrian White & Alan Goodson. Their story was almost the opposite of the previous match, losing the first 2 holes and never better than one down before losing 3 & 2.
Bernie Millward and Jim Metcalf started well halving the first 5 holes before losing the 6th. Unfortunately they were unable to fight back and lost the match 3 & 2. Jonty Clews and John Fox started well winning the second hole but sadly they didn’t win another hole and eventually lost 6 & 4.
It was left to the final pairing of John Randall and Paul Blay to return some pride to the team. They won 7 holes to Exminster’s 2 and ran out winners 5 & 4. Despite the loss by 4 matches to 2, the Sidmouth team won 7.5 to 4.5 over the two legs.
