The coastal state of Vietnam is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Southeast Asia and impresses with its breathtaking natural scenery with extensive mountain ranges, fertile Mekong Delta, emerald green rice fields, paradisiacal beaches, picturesque islands, tropical rainforests and crystal-clear lakes.
Today, Vietnam presents itself as a modern, upwardly mobile nation. The country has so much to offer. Fascinating cultures and exciting cities are just waiting to be discovered. Here, tradition and modernity meet everywhere. Nowhere else in the world are so many world heritage sites so close together.
Vietnam's capital Hanoi offers unique highlights such as the Temple of Tran Vu or the Jade Mountain Temple. The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, which was built in the style of Lenin's mausoleum, is always worth a visit. The former imperial city of Hué is home to the royal palace with the "Forbidden City". The focus here is on the harmony between nature and culture. Ha Long Bay with its labyrinth of 2,000 rocks is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Floating villages and mysterious caves can be admired from a boat.
Golf tourism is becoming increasingly important in Vietnam. Vietnam has developed into a popular golf destination. 25 golf courses and golf resorts designed by international golf course designers and architects with 18 or 36 holes in the midst of paradisiacal landscapes make for an unforgettable golf vacation in Vietnam. Here you will find the right offer for all handicaps and levels of difficulty.
Golf trips to Vietnam are becoming increasingly popular. Golf and culture can be perfectly combined here. Whether dramatically nestled in a hilly landscape, framed by the green Truong Son Mountains, on the South China Sea or in the
labyrinth of the Mekong Delta, the golf courses impress with their unique fairways and lush greens.
Water sports enthusiasts also get their money's worth in Vietnam. Whether sailing, surfing, surfing, diving, snorkeling or boating, nothing is left to be desired here.
The climate is subtropical in northern Vietnam and tropical in the southern part of the country. The tropical monsoon climate in Vietnam ensures warm to hot temperatures and very high humidity all year round. The best time to visit Vietnam is winter.
Vietnam is 6 or 5 hours (summer time) ahead of Germany.
Vietnam's national currency is the dong, which has existed in its current form since 1978. There is only paper money in Vietnam, there are no coins in circulation. The US dollar is also accepted.
Credit cards are increasingly accepted, especially in the larger cities. Numerous ATMs allow withdrawals in Dong. A combination of traveler's cheques, credit and debit cards is recommended, as you cannot rely exclusively on credit cards, especially outside the larger cities.
To enter Vietnam, a passport valid for at least 6 months, a return flight ticket and a visa for EU citizens are required, which must be applied for at the Vietnamese Embassy in Berlin or the Consulate General in Frankfurt. The length of stay for tourists is 4 weeks. A longer stay is also possible for a higher visa fee.
Network coverage in Vietnam is very good. You can continue to use your German cell phone and German SIM card both via roaming and via the usual GSM frequencies. It is only worth buying a prepaid SIM card from one of the three major local providers Vinaphone, Mobifone or Viettel for frequent callers.
Vietnam has several international airports, the most important of which are Hanoi (HAN) and Ho Chi Minh City (SGN). National airports fly to the various cities at really reasonable prices. Although the road network is extensive, it is not always well developed. Like the air and rail networks, bus services connect all the major cities.
The official language in Vietnam is Vietnamese, although Chinese is also spoken in many places. English and French are usually only spoken in the tourist regions.
Although no vaccinations are required for travelers from Europe in Vietnam, vaccination against hepatitis A is recommended. The standard vaccinations should be up to date. For stays away from the tourist and urban regions, malaria prophylaxis and a rabies vaccination should be considered.
Friendliness and respect are particularly important in Vietnam. The worst thing that can happen to an Asian is to lose face by compromising their dignity in public. Talking loudly is considered extremely impolite.
As the head is sacred in Vietnam, you should avoid touching the head of a Vietnamese person at all costs, and this also applies to children.
Shoes are removed when entering a temple or a private house. Low necklines and too much bare skin should be avoided.
Nudism or "topless" is taboo on the beach. You should not be too revealing here, otherwise you could face severe penalties.
Vietnamese cuisine is based on rice and noodles and is very healthy. Seafood is always served fresh due to the short distances to the sea. Vegetables are either served raw or only briefly fried, thus retaining their original freshness. Popular ingredients in Vietnamese cuisine are coconut milk, chili, coriander, mint, lime and lemongrass. Culinary specialties are offered on almost every corner.
