A small village with a church and manor house, idyllically nestled in a landscape of rolling hills, fields, fruit trees, ponds and, on sunny days, the white-blue sky above - anyone who appreciates a typical Bavarian ambience will be delighted with the St. Wolfgang Golf Course in Uttlau. German golf course architect Kurt Rossknecht was equally impressed when he was given the opportunity to draw 18 holes in this Bavarian postcard landscape.
According to his design specifications, a course was created that blends harmoniously into the terrain, is challenging but always easy to play and offers golfers of all abilities plenty to enjoy. The course runs in two 9-hole loops over a ridge, rising fairways with occasional slopes, elevated greens and tee shots into the valley alternate with flatter fairways in the plain, where shots over water hazards on generously dimensioned, undulating greens have to be mastered.
In addition to the sporting challenge of some outstanding golf holes, the St. Wolfgang Golf Course Uttlau also impresses with its beautiful views: The village of Uttlau with its manor house, a lovingly renovated four-sided courtyard over 400 years old, which contains what is probably Bavaria's most beautiful "19th hole" inside, remains constantly in view of the players.
Due to the distinctive terrain profile, the interesting but always fair golf course has its sporting highlights on the second nine holes. Hole ten takes you up to the highest point of the terrain, where, after negotiating a par 3 of 150 meters over a hollow, you hit from an elevated tee on hole 12 far down into the plain. The approach to this par 5 to a green well protected by ponds also requires extreme precision.
Hole 15 is also very demanding, a long dogleg left over a ridge to a green in a hollow. The third shot on this par 5 leads to a small green protected by water at the front - right in the middle of the village, where a tasty snack awaits in the beer garden of the estate as a reward for your efforts.
