The Gulf Habour Golf Course has a great layout and is on a par with other international courses. The resort hosted the World Cup in 1998. The golf course architect was Robert Trent Jones, who wanted to build a course comparable to Pebble Beach. The course hosted both the HOLDEN New Zealand Open 2005 with the winner Niclas Fasth (Sweden), who beat numerous top players at the time, and the BLUE CHIP NZ Open in November 2006. The course is located 35 km north of Auckland Center.
